Our goal is to make access to digital fabrication, robotics, and creative technologies as easy as possible for you – flexible, low-threshold, and always with the joy of experimenting.\nOn our website you’ll find more about us, our workshop formats, and how we support libraries in building makerspaces: studio-umzu.de.\nWe’re really excited that things are officially kicking off – maybe soon at your place too!\n"},{"url":"https://aron.petau.net/project/einszwovier-kicker-glow-up/","title":"einszwovier: Kicker Glow-Up","body":"Course Profile\n\nCourse TitleKicker Glow-Up: Custom Foosball Figurines\nDuration3 days (3 × 120 min or 3 × 180 min)\nTarget Group7th grade students (ages 12-13)\nGroup Size10-12 students\nLocationSchool makerspace / workshop environment\nEquipmentiPads (provided by GvB), 3D printers, painting supplies\n\nSkills Trained\n\nDigital Literacy: 3D scanning with Polycam/Scaniverse, CAD design in TinkerCAD, slicing\nsoftware (PrusaSlicer)\nDesign Thinking: Iterative prototyping, problem-solving, technical constraints (scale,\nprintability, mounting)\nMaking Skills: 3D printing fundamentals, post-processing, painting and finishing techniques\nCollaborative Learning: Peer support, shared troubleshooting, collective maintenance\nSpatial Appropriation: Critical reflection on representation in public play spaces, claiming\nownership through making\n\nReimagining Foosball Figurines\nThe Kicker Glow-Up is now in its second iteration—a hands-on 3-day workshop designed for\n7th graders to create their own custom table foosball figurines for the school's outdoor tables.\nThis project combines digital fabrication, 3D modeling, and creativity to give students ownership\nover their play equipment. The entire workflow runs on iPads provided by the GVB (Gemeinnützige\nGesellschaft für berufsbildende Maßnahmen), making digital fabrication accessible without\nrequiring extensive computer infrastructure.\nHow It Started\nThe idea for this workshop emerged from a casual conversation with a female student who\noff-handedly complained that foosball figurines are always male-coded. That observation stopped\nus in our tracks. She was absolutely right—standard foosball figures implicitly exclude and\nsubtly reinforce who \"belongs\"inplayspaces.\nWerealizedthatindividualizingthefigurineswasn'tjustafunmakingproject—itwasa\nperfectlyeducationalwayforstudentstoappropriatetheirownplaygrounds.Bycreatingtheir\nownrepresentations,studentsclaimownershipoverpublicplayequipmentandreshapetheimplicit\nmessagesaboutwhothesespacesarefor.\nWorkshopOverview\nOverthreeintensivedays,studentslearnthecompletedigitalfabricationpipeline:from\ncapturing3Dscansofthemselvesorobjects,modelingandadaptingdesignsinCADsoftware,\npreparingfilesfor3Dprinting,tofinallymanufacturingandfinishingtheircustomfigurines.\nTheworkshopempowersstudentsto:\n\nDigitizethephysicalworldusing3Dscanningtools\nDesignin3DwithaccessibleCADsoftware\nUnderstandmanufacturingthroughhands-on3Dprinting\nPersonalizetheirenvironmentbycreatingfunctionalartfortheirschool\n\nTheWorkflow\nWorkshopStructure\nTheworkshopspansthreedayswithflexibletiming—either3×120minutesor3×180minutes,\ndependingontheschool'sschedule.Eachdaybuildsupontheprevious,movingfromexploration\ntocreationtocelebration.\nDay1:Introduction&Exploration(120-180min)\nThefirstdayestablishesthefoundationandsparkscuriosity:\nSpace&Machines(30-45min)\n\nRoomintroductiontothemakerspaceorworkshopenv
